Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO / HKJK) lies about fifteen kilometres east of Nairobi's centre and is Kenya's principal international gateway. For private aviation it serves one clear purpose: its long runway takes the large-cabin and long-range jets that Wilson Airport cannot, making it the launch point for Nairobi's intercontinental private sectors.

Long-range private departures

Nonstop private sectors to Dubai and the Gulf (around five hours), Cape Town (around five and a half) and onward to Europe and Asia operate from NBO in super-midsize, large-cabin and VVIP airliner-class aircraft. Private and general-aviation handling keeps the experience far removed from the airline terminals: dedicated facilities, fast-tracked immigration and customs, and boarding by car directly to the aircraft.

How NBO and Wilson work together

Most East African itineraries use both Nairobi fields: turboprops and safari legs at Wilson, long-haul jets at NBO.
