Nairobi Wilson (WIL) → Lodwar / Northern Kenya (LOK)

Lodwar is the gateway to Turkana — Kenya's vast, remote north-west, where the practical distances are enormous and the roads are measured in days. For NGOs, project teams, government missions and adventurous travellers, chartering from Wilson Airport is simply how the region works: about an hour and three-quarters in the air replaces two hard days on the road.

The flight

The routing runs north-north-west from Nairobi, up the floor of the Great Rift Valley — past Lakes Baringo and Bogoria — into the arid country of the north-west. Flight time to Lodwar is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes depending on aircraft.

Airports and arrival

Lodwar (LOK) is the principal airstrip for central Turkana and the county capital. The wider region is served by a network of remote strips — including Lokichoggio near the South Sudan border and Kalokol near the lake — and our aircraft routinely serve multiple strips in a single rotation. Ground arrangements in the north are thinner than elsewhere in Kenya; we coordinate with your team, agency or lodge so vehicles are confirmed before departure.

• Lake Turkana: the Jade Sea — Eliye Springs, Central Island's crater lakes and the fishing lodges — is one of Africa's most extraordinary landscapes, and effectively fly-in only.
• Conditions: operations in the north favour morning departures for cooler, smoother flying; luggage should be soft-sided for smaller strips.
• Medical standby: for remote-site projects, ask about air-ambulance coverage — our medical team can advise on evacuation planning for the region.
