MBA / HKMOMombasa, Kenya

Moi International Airport, Mombasa

Moi International is the coast's main airport — about an hour from Nairobi by private aircraft, and the arrival point for Mombasa city, the port, and the beaches of the north coast.

Moi International Airport (MBA / HKMO) sits on the mainland at Changamwe, west of Mombasa island. It is Kenya's second airport and the coast's commercial hub — with a runway long enough for any aircraft we operate, from Caravan to airliner.

Charter to the coast

The Nairobi–Mombasa sector takes about an hour by private aircraft, against eight or more on the road. General-aviation handling at Moi keeps arrivals brisk: you are met at the aircraft and driven out within minutes, without the scheduled-terminal queues.

Where you are going matters

Moi International serves the city, the port and the north coast — Nyali, Shanzu, Kilifi and Vipingo are all a straightforward transfer from the field. If your destination is the south coast — Diani, Galu, Msambweni — fly to Ukunda airstrip instead: landing at Mombasa means crossing the Likoni ferry, which can cost more time than the flight itself. It is the single most useful piece of routing advice on the Kenyan coast, and we apply it by default.

Business on the coast

Mombasa is East Africa's great port city, and much of our coastal flying is commercial: executives on day-returns, project teams for the port and the logistics corridor, and ship's crew and marine superintendents connecting to vessels. A morning departure from Wilson, a full working day, and an evening flight home is routine.

Good to know

  • Day returns: the aircraft can wait for a same-day return — often the most economical way to do coastal business.
  • Onward legs: Malindi, Lamu and Zanzibar are all short onward sectors from Mombasa.
  • Groups: for weddings and events at the coast, a dedicated aircraft moves the whole party together — one manifest, no missed connections.
